Loy Krathong
Celebrations for this year’s Loy Krathong festival culminated tonight with lanterns and fireworks lighting up the sky and floating krathongs glistening on waterways throughout Thailand. Arguably the most beautiful of Thailand’s many festivals, and certainly one of the most romantic, Loy Krathong is always keenly anticipated by many Thai people including Thai expats in Europe, North America and Australia.
There have been a few local reports concerning the almost inevitable accidents with firecrackers, but in the main the festival has been enjoyed by most of the country. Thais don’t need much of an excuse for a party, but with Loy Krathong over and done with the whole of Thailand is now eagerly awaiting the countdown to the celebrations for the king’s 80th birthday on December 5th.
