Public Holiday in Thailand for Queen’s Birthday

Queen Sirikit of Thailand celebrates her 76th birthday today. The day is marked as a public holiday in Thailand and it’s no coincidence that the occasion of the queen’s birthday is also the date for Mother’s Day as Queen Sirikit is fondly regarded as the mother of the nation.

In her birthday address given to dignitaries and well-wishers, Queen Sirikit talked about environmental issues and encouraged people to properly manage Thailand’s forests and fresh-water reserves. The Thai king and queen are patrons of various projects which give assistance to environmental projects in Thailand.
