Australian Tourist Killed in Phuket Street Robbery

An Australian woman was fatally stabbed in Phuket on Wednesday night. Michelle Smith, aged 60, was attacked whilst walking back to the Katathani Phuket Beach Resort. Tammee Lynn, aged 42, was also stabbed in the same incident but escaped with minor injuries.

A preliminary police report has said that two young men on a motorcycle followed the women as they walked back to their hotel from a local restaurant in the beach resort area of Kata Noi. One of the attackers attempted to snatch Ms Smith’s handbag and as she fought back she was fatally stabbed in the heart. A surveillance camera has captured the images of the two men who remain at large.

Reports from Australia say the two women were part of a group of ten travel agents from Perth who were on a tour of Phuket hotels. Australian authorities are providing consular assistance to the families of those involved in the tragedy.
