Bangkok Protests End
The red-shirted anti-government protesters have ended their demonstration in Bangkok. The end of the protest follows talks amongst the red-shirted leaders as Thai military forces surrounded the encampment that had been set up close to Government House. Two of the leaders gave themselves up to police before buses were brought in to help take some of the protesters back to the provinces. The recriminations and blame-game will probably begin after the Songkran holidays as people on all sides of the argument have time to reflect on the events of the last few days.
Authorities are now clearing roads of debris and Bangkok is starting to return to normal. Shopping malls that had been closed as a precautionary measure are now open and full train services have resumed in and out of Bangkok’s Hualamphong station.
