Bees Attack Monks at Chiang Mai Temple

Wat Chedi Luang temple in Chiang MaiMore than 70 novice monks have been rushed to hospital following an attack by a swarm of honey bees at a temple in Chiang Mai. Most of the young men have now been discharged with minor injuries, but at least six of the monks were reported to be in a serious condition and were unconscious on arrival at hospital.

According to local reports, the incident took place yesterday at the historic Wat Chedi Luang temple in central Chiang Mai. The temple grounds are home to a number of bee hives and it appears that as the monks were sweeping the area the bees swarmed and attacked. The temple say they have not experienced problems with the bees before and it is not clear what provoked them to swarm.
