The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has introduced a campaign aimed at restoring tourist confidence in the aftermath of the political demonstrations held earlier this year. It is also hoped that the ‘Smile Campaign’ will help the traders and businesses that suffered losses during the prolonged political rally in the commercial district of Bangkok.
Smile in the Park Musical Concerts
Two successful events have already been held at Siam Square and Ratchaprasong in central Bangkok with street markets and special promotions enticing shoppers to the area. This weekend (August 21-22) will see the first Smile in the Park musical concert which will be held from 11.00 to 21.00 at Lumphini Park in Bangkok. The second of these musical concerts is at Benjakitti Park from September 18-19.
Smile at Khao San Road
The Fountain Courtyard at the Siam Paragon shopping mall in central Bangkok is the venue for the ‘International Taste 2010 Amazing Thailand’ event which will take place from September 10-12. The popular backpacker area of Banglamphu is also included in the promotional campaign with ‘Smile at Khao San Road’ set to add even more activity to the ever-lively Khao San Road and Soi Rambudtree. The Khao San Road event is being held from 16.00 to midnight September 11-12.
In addition to the events in Bangkok, there are also a number of regional tourism festivals taking place in Udon Thani, Surat Thani and Suphan Buri with the aim of boosting the domestic tourism sector in Thailand.
