His Majesty the King was cheered by thousands of well-wishers today as he boarded the Royal Thai navy ship Angsana, en route to inspect some of the riverside communities affected by last year’s floods. The river cruise from the Siriraj Hospital in central Bangkok to Nonthaburi also included a visit to the Royal Irrigation Department where Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reported to the King on a number of irrigation projects. The Thai monarch was accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
As has become the custom on such occasions, large sections of the crowd were wearing pink as well as waving the Thai national flag together with royal flags. Many had travelled into Bangkok from provinces a long distance away from the Thai capital and even a heavy downpour was not going to dent their enthusiasm as they tried to catch a glimpse of HM the King who was dressed in a white Royal Thai navy uniform with a short-sleeve shirt. The crowds were also treated to a spectacular light and sound show at the end of the evening.
