Poor visibility caused by fog forced the diversion of a handful of flights this morning at Bangkok’s international airport. Passengers due to land at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport between 08.00-09.00 found their flights being diverted to other regional hubs including Chiang Mai and Phuket. Not all of Bangkok was affected by the fog and so most of the re-routings merely involved the short detour to Bangkok’s other airport at Don Muang.
The early morning fog which has been seen in some parts of central and northern Thailand has been caused by two weather systems meeting. Warm air has been blown in from the south and picked up moisture from the Gulf of Thailand on the way. This has then met the weakening ridge of high pressure and created the early morning fog. More fog is expected tomorrow morning in parts of central and northern Thailand before the warmth of the sun burns it off.
