Laos Earthquake Felt in Thailand

An earthquake close to Luang Prabang in Laos made its impact felt in Thailand this afternoon. A couple of hours ago I was at home in Chiang Mai working away at my desk, when I felt my chair move backwards slightly. To be honest, I thought I’d spent too much time looking at the computer and was having a dizzy spell! It didn’t last long and I can’t say the whole room shook or there were pictures falling off the walls, but there was definitely something going on.

I had a siesta for a few hours thinking I’d been overdoing things. I’ve just switched on the TV and seen reports that tremors have been felt as far away as Bangkok where some buildings swayed and shoppers were evacuated.

Earth tremors are not uncommon in Thailand (especially parts of the north) but don’t usually fall into the dangerous category.
