More Airport Protests in Krabi, Hat Yai and Surat Thani

Following the announcement of a state of emergency in Bangkok, anti-government demonstrators in the south of Thailand have again targeted regional airports. Krabi airport was briefly closed this morning as protesters gathered there before moving on to a rally at city hall in Krabi Town. The airport at Hat Yai was closed this afternoon as PAD supporters congregated and in Surat Thani roads near the airport were blocked. In Phuket the airport remains open with protesters instead targeting the government building at Phuket city hall.

Other protests are sure to take place in one form or another at various locations throughout Thailand which could affect transport and see roads blocked. In Bangkok, the emergency measures allow the army to disperse crowds and gatherings. Bangkok airport should not be affected by protests but there could be some cancellations of domestic flights as regional airports in the south of Thailand continue to be targeted.

Update Thursday, September 4th: Hat Yai airport re-opened today. All airports in Thailand are currently open.
