New Cabinet Sworn In
The new political cabinet was sworn in yesterday in a ceremony presided over by the king of Thailand. The coalition cabinet has seen key posts go to allies of Thaksin Shiniwatra. Not content with just being the new Prime Minister, Samak Sundaravej has the double post of defence minister in what will be seen as a further rebuff for the military elite in Thailand.
Samak is going to be a busy man; Prime Minister, defence minister and celebrity television chef is going to mean he’s got plenty on his plate (pun intended). Added to the mix, the veteran politician still has corruption charges hanging over him from his days in office as Bangkok governor.
