Real Tiger Cub Found in Baggage at Bangkok Airport

A two-month-old tiger cub has been found in an oversized item of baggage at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport. The tiger cub had been drugged and was hidden in the bag amid stuffed animal toys. Customs staff at Bangkok airport made the discovery as the bag went through the x-ray machine in the cargo area. Wildlife officials are taking care of the cub which was said to be dazed and drowsy when the baggage was opened.

A 31-year-old Thai woman has been arrested in connection with the incident which took place earlier this week. The passenger flight was heading from Bangkok to Iran, but the detained woman denied knowledge of the tiger and claimed to be carrying the bag on behalf of somebody else. Wildlife officials are trying to establish whether the tiger was wild or had been bred in captivity. If the woman is found guilty of smuggling wildlife she faces a prison sentence of up to four years.
