Red Shirts Protest in Bangkok

With the Thai cabinet currently meeting in Hua Hin ahead of this weekend’s ASEAN summit, thousands of red-shirted anti-government protesters have chosen today to march to Government House in Bangkok. Prime Minister Abhisit is due back in Bangkok tomorrow, but access to Government House could be hindered by the red shirts who look set to increase in numbers as they attempt to increase pressure on the new government. The protests have been peaceful so far, but police and army are on standby.

There have also been protests today on a smaller scale in the Hua Hin area which will host the ASEAN summit from February 27 – March 1. Some factions of the red shirts have targeted the Thai seaside resort knowing that such protests will embarrass the current government in front of its regional neighbours.
