Red Shirts Schedule Bangkok Rally for March
The red shirt anti-government group, the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), have announced dates for a planned mass rally in Bangkok. The UDD and their red shirt supporters propose to gather in the provinces from March 12 before coming together at Sanam Luang in Bangkok on March 14.
Today’s announcement comes on the eve of the Thaksin asset case. Tomorrow, the Supreme Court will rule on what will happen to 76 billion Baht worth of Thaksin Shinawatra’s assets. The UDD have said they will not organise a rally tomorrow and that any protests held in the future will be peaceful. In April 2009, protests in Bangkok and Pattaya turned violent. There has been tension in Thailand in the lead up to tomorrow’s court decision, but the Thai government has continued to affirm that they have the situation under control.
