Lin Ping the panda correctly ‘predicted’ Spain would beat Italy ahead of the Euro 2012 final played last night in Kiev. Lin Ping is the three-year-old star attraction at Chiang Mai zoo in the north of Thailand. Befitting her celebrity status, she features on car number plates and has her own YouTube channel as well as the obligatory Twitter and Facebook accounts. With all that going on in her busy life, it’s surprising she has time to make any football predictions. But before last night’s final the young panda took time out of her hectic schedule to show her preference for Spain over Italy by selecting the Spanish flag. As you’ll see in the video below, Lin Ping has clearly spent too much time watching football and employs a lot of deliberate time-wasting tactics! The pre-match build-up goes on a bit, but the main action begins around the 18.46 mark.
In 2010, Lin Ping also correctly ‘tipped’ Spain to win the World Cup. The Chiang Mai panda doesn’t have a 100% record though; last week before the Italy v Germany semi-final she ‘wrongly predicted’ Germany would beat Italy.
