Oliver Jufer has been deported from Thailand after serving just a couple of weeks of his 10-year prison sentence for lese majeste. His freedom comes as a a result of a pardon from the man he insulted, King Bhumibol. King Bhumibol has previously stated that despite his position, he should not be above criticism. Contrary to what some Western commentators seem to think, the Thai king isn’t just revered because of his title, but because of his qualities as a person. King Bhumibol has worked tirelessly during his reign setting up numerous projects for the benefit of the Thai people. His humanitarian efforts and work ethic are the main reasons he has earned the description as ‘father of the nation’.
