For a brief period this afternoon, Thai and Cambodian forces exchanged gunfire at the disputed border close to Preah Vihear Temple. Each country has blamed each other for firing first and there have been reports of injuries on both sides. Talks between Cambodia and Thailand have so far been unsuccessful in resolving the long-standing territorial dispute and there has been increasing military tension in the area in the last few months.
