Thai King in Hospital

King Bhumibol is reported to be making a good recovery following his admittance to the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok on Saturday. The king had been experiencing weakness in his right side and underwent treatment at the weekend. Thousands of well-wishers have flocked to the hospital, many wearing the yellow-coloured shirt associated with the man seen as the ‘father of the nation’.

The Thai king is the world’s longest reigning monarch, coming to the throne in 1946. Last year’s celebrations to commemorate the king’s 60th year as monarch have been continued, with this year marking his 80th birthday. Events have taken place throughout the country during 2007 and are set to culminate on the king’s birthday on December 5th.
