Thai King Makes Public Appearance

Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej has made his first public appearance since he was admitted to hospital in Bangkok a month ago. Thai television has shown footage of the 81-year-old Thai king paying respects to his family on the occasion of Chulalongkorn Day. Every year on October 23, Thailand commemorates one of its most revered monarchs, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the grandfather of the current king.

The king remained within the grounds of the Siriraj Hospital as he paid his respects to portraits of his late parents and his grandfather. The Royal Household Bureau announced that the king will remain in hospital to continue his convalescence, but the sight of His Majesty making a public appearance today has been welcome good news for the Thai public as they begin to enjoy the long holiday weekend.
