Thai King Postpones Birthday Speech
Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej has ordered the postponement of some of the official events scheduled for this week in honour of his birthday. Amongst the events postponed are the Trooping of the Colour and the king’s birthday speech. However, not all official functions have been postponed and the king’s son, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, will act on His Majesty the King’s behalf for some of the royal functions that have been scheduled.
The Thai monarch, who will be 82 this Saturday, has suffered from ill health in recent years and was unable to give his birthday speech last year because of a problem with his throat. In September of this year, the Thai king was admitted to hospital with a lung infection and is still continuing his rehabilitation. However, it has been announced by the Royal Household Bureau that the king will make a public appearance on December 5, the date of his birthday.
