Thai Spider-Man Rescues Boy from Window Ledge

There has been a heart-warming story in Bangkok where a fireman dressed up as Spider-Man to rescue an eight-year-old autistic child from a window ledge. The boy climbed out of the third-floor window of his classroom after becoming upset whilst attending his first day at a special needs school in the Thai capital. Teachers were unable to coax the youngster inside and the fire brigade were called.

Still unable to get the boy inside, a remark by the child’s mother about her son’s fondness for comic-book superheroes prompted one of the firemen, Somchai Yoosabai, to return to the station and collect the Spider-Man costume he used when giving fire drills at local schools.

In an interview with Thai television, Somchai said, “I told him Spider-Man is here to rescue you, no monsters are going to attack you and I told him to walk slowly towards me as running could be dangerous.” These calming words and the sight of a comic-book superhero holding a tempting glass of orange juice finally did the trick as the grinning youngster walked into the arms of Spider-Man and returned to safety.
