There has been fighting between anti-government protesters and Thai troops this morning and into the afternoon. Violence occurred as Thai security forces moved into an area of central Bangkok in a concerted effort to secure the site of the red shirt encampment. As troops moved in to surround the protesters, the red shirts responded by setting light to an empty bus, launching home-made fireworks and setting light to tyres.
The army currently appear to have the upper hand, but a major pocket of resistance remains in and around Lumphini Park where shots have been exchanged between troops and protesters.
