The funeral ceremonies for HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana will commence tomorrow in Bangkok. This marks the beginning of a three day period of mourning in which many Thai people will wear black and official flags will be flown at half-mast. Between November 15-19 there will be a number of processions in Bangkok with the actual cremation ceremony taking place this Saturday. Although the funeral is in Bangkok, Thai people will pay their respects to the king’s older sister by laying sandalwood flowers at temples and provincial city halls throughout Thailand.
During the three day period of mourning from November 14-16 officials have called for a curtailment of activities at entertainment venues. This means that some bars and clubs may be closed whilst those that do remain open are likely to have restrictions on alcohol and music.
