Thaksin’s Wife Found Guilty of Tax Evasion
Khunying Potjaman Shinawatra, the wife of former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has today been found guilty of tax evasion and sentenced to three years in prison. Khunying Shinawatra has the opportunity to appeal the sentence within the next 30 days. She has been released on bail which was set at 5 million Baht (approximately $150,000 USD).
Thaksin himself still has corruption charges hanging over him and the whole affair has the potential to stoke up yet more unrest in what are already tense political times in Thailand.
