Fatal Train Accident Near Hua Hin

A train travelling from Trang in southern Thailand to Bangkok has derailed this morning. Local reports say at least 7 people have died and over 50 passengers have been taken to hospital. The accident happened shortly before 05.00 local time just outside the popular seaside resort of Hua Hin. The tragedy occurred during heavy rain, but initial reports suggest faulty tracks may have been the cause of the incident which resulted in six of the train’s carriages leaving the rails.

Rapid train services between Bangkok and the south are currently suspended as rescue and recovery teams work at the scene alongside accident investiagtors. It may be two days before the wreckage can be removed and full train services can resume.
