Is Bangkok Airport Set to Re-Open?

There are conflicting reports about whether Bangkok international airport is getting ready to re-open following today’s court ruling which has disqualified Somchai as prime minister.

Some news channels are reporting that the anti-government protesters have agreed to end their occupation of Bangkok’s two airports. Initially, a PAD protest leader was apparently quoted as saying that the blockade at the airports would continue until all of the government left office and not just those ordered to do so by the Constitution Court. Now there are quotes suggesting that the PAD anti-government protesters are preparing to vacate the airports.

A few hours ago it was reported that cargo flights were set to recommence, but not passenger flights. Now it appears an agreement may have been reached between the protesters and Airports of Thailand (AOT). Earlier, AOT had said that once the protesters left Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, flights could begin again in 7 days. There is now hope that at least some flights could begin as early as the next 24 or 48 hours. It’s breaking news and is still unconfirmed, so hopefully the situation should become clearer before the end of the day, but it could at last be good news for tourists and businesses.
