The anti-government protesters have now targeted Bangkok’s international airport at Suvarnabhumi. Although flights are currently operating as normal, traffic congestion and road closures mean that passengers face a long walk from drop off points to the terminal building. Local reports suggest that passengers face walking up to 3 kilometres as police and officials try to clear the area. It’s not clear how long this will continue, but even if it is resolved quickly it will be another blow for the economically important tourist industry in Thailand.
The anti-government PAD movement switched their attention to Suvarnabhumi with the Thai prime minister due to return to Thailand from an economic meeting in Peru.
