The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has released a free digital guidebook aimed at encouraging female solo travellers to experience more of the country. Me, Myself & Thailand features interesting things to see and do at six different destinations across Thailand:
- Chiang Mai
- Nong Khai
The locations featured in Me, Myself & Thailand have been selected to showcase unique experiences with a focus on culture, arts, and local community-based activities. With solo female travel a growing trend in tourism, the aim of the digital guidebook is to help discerning female travellers experience more of Thailand. The practical guidebook provides insider tips and includes advice on travel, accommodation, attractions, and suggested itineraries. Each of the itineraries and featured tour programs have been tested by a combination of travel industry professionals, responsible tour operators and female travellers.
Solo female travel
Solo travel is on the rise. And that is especially true for female travellers. According to a report by Hostelworld, the number of women choosing to travel the world solo has almost doubled in the last four years. The accommodation booking service says the number of solo female bookings has increased by 88% since 2015. And on Google, the average monthly search volume for the phrase ‘solo female travel’ grew by 52% between 2016 and 2017 and continues to rise.
Advantages of solo travel
It can be daunting to travel by yourself and it may not suit everybody, but there are advantages to doing it your own way. Research by the Me, Myself & Thailand project has identified that solo female travellers are motivated to go their own way for these key reasons:
- Inspiration and self-discovery
- Getting out of your comfort zone
- Experience new cultures
- Overcoming fears
- Developing confidence
- Recharge and relax
- Challenge yourself
- Make a difference
- Meet new people
- Search your soul
- Learn new skills
Although the Me, Myself & Thailand guide is aimed at solo female travellers, there is plenty of useful information in there that all travellers may find useful.
