Earlier this week I stayed at the Lub Sbuy Guest House in Phuket Town. I only stayed for one night, but was impressed with the accommodation which is more akin to a boutique hotel.
Lub Sbuy (which is pronounced more like ‘lap sabai’) is the Thai phrase for ‘sleep well’.
Lub Sbuy offer a choice of 19 rooms ranging from standard private air-con rooms to shared dorm rooms with fans. This makes it a good option for single travellers, families or those on a budget without losing out on some of the features and benefits of a decent hotel.
I stayed in one of the standard air-con rooms and was very pleased with the overall service levels. The hotel is new and my room was immaculate and tastefully decorated. The bed was large and extremely comfortable and there was plenty of hanging space for clothes in the built-in wardrobe. A large flat-screen television offered a choice of Thai and international channels and the room was spacious and well-designed. The bathroom was also a decent size and featured an excellent rain-shower which was a treat to use.
My one minor criticism is from exterior noise. I stayed in Room 101 which is nearest to the front entrance and the road and so it may just be more of an issue with this particular room. The front entrance to the hotel is open-sided and there is a nearby club/bar from which some music can be heard. This isn’t unusual in Thailand and it didn’t prevent me getting a good night’s sleep and it wouldn’t stop me from staying in the same room again in the future.
Breakfast wasn’t included in my room rate and I’m not sure if food is on offer at the hotel or not. However, there are plenty of local restaurants and food-stalls along the main road just in front of the hotel and the nearest 7-Eleven convenience store is less than 2-minutes walk away.
Facilities & Staff
The staff were very friendly and professional and although I was only at the hotel for a short period, I was very impressed with them. The free wi-fi in my room was excellent and very speedy which was a nice bonus. Lub Sbuy can arrange tours and taxis if you wish, but I don’t know how competitive the prices are because I didn’t use them.
The hotel is located on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town. It’s a 10-minute drive from Rassada Pier or approximately 40 minutes from Phuket airport. Lub Sbuy is perfectly located for Phuket bus station which is a 1 minute walk away and makes this an excellent choice for travellers using Phuket Town as a transit point. Even if you are staying in Phuket for a longer period I think that Lub Sbuy is an option worth considering. All of Phuket’s beaches can be reached conveniently and cheaply via the local songthaew service from the bus station or nearby market. Lub Sbuy is also just a short walk away from the historic Talang Road district which is home to some excellent restaurants. This colourful area with its striking Sino-Portuguese architecture is a great place to explore and soak up some culture away from the beaches.
With a convenient location in the middle of Phuket Town, the Lub Sbuy Guest House is an excellent choice for those on a budget who don’t want to compromise on quality. Highly recommended.
