Low cost airline Air Asia have commenced flights on a new route between Hua Hin and Kuala Lumpur. The 2-hour long flight connects the Thai seaside resort with the Malaysian capital without the need to travel via Bangkok. Hua Hin is located approximately 200km (125 miles) to the south of Bangkok and the journey by road usually takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.
The new service began on May 18 with direct flights between Hua Hin and Kuala Lumpur four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday). Air Asia already flies direct from Kuala Lumpur to other Thai destinations including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Pattaya (U-Tapao) and Phuket.
The small airport at Hua Hin is only a 10-minute drive from the centre of town with taxis and a shuttle bus service available on arrival to take passengers to their hotel or guest house. A songthaew (10 Baht per person) also runs at approximately half-hour intervals during the day between Sasong Road close to the Night Market area and the airport. The green-coloured songthaew drops off and picks up on the main Phetchkasem Road outside the airport entrance.
