Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej left hospital in Bangkok on Sunday to travel to the Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin. The 87-year-old Thai monarch had been staying at Siriraj Hospital in the Thai capital since undergoing surgery in November 2014 to remove his gall bladder. The health of the elderly king is a sensitive issue in Thailand. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has experienced a number of extended stays at Siriraj Hospital in recent years with public appearances limited.
Also travelling in the royal motorcade to Hua Hin were Queen Sirikit and Princess Sirindhorn. An announcement from the Royal Household Bureau said the king and queen travelled to the seaside resort of Hua Hin for a “change of atmosphere”. Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin is a favourite destination for the Thai royal family with the name translating as ‘Far From Worries’.
This was the second chance in a week for well-wishers to line the streets in Bangkok and cheer the Thai monarch. On May 5, the king was able to attend the Coronation Day commemorations in Bangkok.
