Authorities in Thailand met on 5 January to discuss whether to impose Covid restrictions on arrivals from China. A number of other countries have already introduced mandatory testing for travellers from China.

Search continues for missing sailors
The search continues for the last five missing crew members from HTMS Sukhothai. The Thai navy warship sank on 18 December after losing power in a storm off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan. Out of the 105 people on board, 76 were rescued while the bodies of 24 others have been found. Investigations into the tragedy continue.
Princess remains in hospital in Bangkok
HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha remains in hospital in Bangkok. The Thai king’s eldest daughter collapsed during a trip to Nakhon Ratchasima province last month. The Royal Household Bureau says the 44-year-old princess is being treated for a heart-related health issue.
New Bangkok train station for long-distance trains
Long-distance trains to and from Bangkok are scheduled to move away from Hua Lamphong station on 19 January. The new terminal will be Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (previously known as Bang Sue Grand Station). Among the services that will now run from Krung Thep Aphiwat are the popular routes between Bangkok and Chiang Mai and Bangkok and Surat Thani. Although long-distance trains will be moved, Bangkok Hua Lamphong station will remain open.
