King Vajiralongkorn Names New Queen

2 May 2019

A few days ahead of his official coronation, the king of Thailand has married his royal consort. At a wedding ceremony in Bangkok on 1 May 2019, HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn married the woman who was previously the deputy commander of his personal security detail, General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya. The king’s new wife has been bestowed the title of Queen Suthida.

HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 66, ascended to the throne following the death of his father in 2016. He is the tenth king of the Chakri Dynasty and is accorded the title Rama X.

Updates
June 3 will now be an annual public holiday in honour of HM Queen Suthida’s birthday.
The widow of the late king has been reassigned the royal title of Queen Dowager Sirikit.
